A New Edition of The Bluebook, A Uniform System of Citation Has Arrived!

By Leslie A. Pardo

ADVERTISEMENTS

The nineteenth edition of The Bluebook arrived this summer.  First published in 1926, this definitive guide to legal citation is compiled by the editors of the Columbia Law Review, the Harvard Law Review, the University of  Pennsylvania Law Review, and the Yale Law Journal, and is published and distributed through the Harvard Law Review Association.

How has this edition changed?
The current edition retains the same basic approach as earlier editions, to allow the reader to locate a cited source, but strives to make the information easier to access and simpler.  Among significant changes: provision for increased citation to Internet sources; increased guidance for administrative agency materials including specific citation formats for Congressional Research Service and Government Accountability Office reports; and detailed information for citation to electronic case files.  As to the international and foreign law arena, the foreign jurisdiction table has been expanded and improved citations for United Nations materials have been provided.  Also added was the citation format for the International Criminal Court.

Where is it?
