JEFFERSON COURTS: 2008 Judcial Candidates Survey by Louisville Bar Association

By Michael Stevens

ADVERTISEMENTS

A total of 15 candidates were on the ballot for an open seat in the Jefferson District Court (Division 16), four candidates listed for the seat in Jefferson Circuit Court (Division 4), and two candidates for the seat in the Kentucky Supreme Court.  The poll's results are available at the LBA web site by CLICKING HERE.

We will let you draw your own conclusions!

This year's Poll was conducted in February 2008. Approximately 4,000 polls were mailed to KBA members in Jefferson County - 744 polls were returned.

Attorneys were asked to check the appropriate response for each candidate:

- Do Not Know Candidate
- Not Rated
- Highly Qualified
- Qualified
- Unqualified

The LBA then releases the data, which identifies the percentage of attorneys who do not know the candidate, the percentage that cannot rate the candidate and the percentages of those who can rate the candidate as highly qualified, qualified or unqualified. Because experience is an important aspect of a candidate's qualifications, the LBA includes the percentage of attorneys who do not know a judicial candidate in its poll rankings. Because judges practicing on various benches will be known by different sets of attorneys, the poll should only be used to compare the candidates running in a particular race -not as a means to compare the qualifications of candidates across all races. The results were tabulated by the accounting firm Deming Malone Livesay & Ostroff, an independent accounting firm. Any candidate who withdrew their name from their respective race prior to the LBA's Poll deadline, their name was removed from the tabulated results. All responses remain anonymous.
