Comey leaves Shanghai, returns to Palo Alto

By Richard Binder

ADVERTISEMENTS

Ccomey Morrison & Foerster announced today that corporate partner Chuck Comey has relocated from the firm?s Shanghai office to its Palo Alto office after 16 years in Asia. Mr. Comey will leverage his extensive experience in Asia in advising on cross-border M&A, private equity, and other corporate transactions and will continue playing a pivotal role, as he has for two decades, serving clients investing in and from the United States.

Mr. Comey, fluent in Mandarin, ventured to Asia in 1994 from the Palo Alto office where he was seconded to a major Japanese trading company and then practiced in Morrison & Foerster?s Tokyo office for nine years before moving to China to open the firm's Shanghai office in 2003. In addition to advising clients in M&A and private equity transactions, he has advised numerous Asian and U.S. clients on strategic alliances, internal investigations, and, more recently, cleantech and life sciences transactions in China.

Mr. Comey noted, "I've tremendously enjoyed my tenure in China and Japan. My return to the States is an extension of the practice I?ve established over the past 16 years. Silicon Valley remains a key gateway for trans-Pacific business, and I'm looking forward to advising our U.S. clients on their Asian deals as well as the firm's many Asian clients as they pursue investments and other transactions in North America."
