: Legal Pad | LAJury acquits former investigator of two charges, deadlocked on remainder
By Richard Binder
This past Friday Janet Virginia Strong was acquitted of two misdemeanor charges that she filed false reports.
The jury agreed with Strong's defense attorney, Charles Goldwasser, when he argued that Strong had appropriately exercised her discretion when she checked a box indicating there was nothing left to do in the investigations.
But the jury deadlocked on three similar charges filed against the former investigator, including one where the panel voted 11-1 for guilt, and another where it voted 10-2 for guilt. The jury deadlocked at 6-6 on the third count.
A pre-trial hearing has been scheduled for those three counts on August 20, and a trial for October 25.
