: Legal Pad | LAClaims of juror misconduct call Skilled Healthcare settlement into question

A motion filed last week in the Skilled Healthcare settlement talks has complicated matters, as defense attorneys call for a mistrial alleging juror misconduct.
Defense attorneys claim that a member of the jury lied on court documents about her previous employment. Former Coroner Frank Jager confirmed last week that the juror did indeed work for the Humboldt County Coroner's office and allegedly did work as a forensic consultant
on the body of a person who died at Granada Healthcare and
Rehabilitation, one of 22 California facilities implicated in the
lawsuit.
The motion further claims that the juror knew a member of the class, who complained to her about poor treatment at the Granada nursing home.
A $677 million verdict is on the line pending either a settlement or a motion hearing, but apparently the latter has been pushed back to Friday. In the meantime, Skilled Healthcare shares rose 33 percent today.
