Joshua Mauldin remains in jail on felony charges of child endangerment for allegedly microwaving his baby.
FOX 26 News

GALVESTON, Texas -- An Arkansas man who claims he was insane when he placed his 2-month-old daughter in a microwave oven only did it to protect her from his psychotic episode and hallucinations, his attorney told jurors Thursday.

Joshua Mauldin, 20, is charged with felony injury to a child, for putting daughter Ana in a Galveston hotel microwave for 10 to 20 seconds. He is also accused of punching the baby and putting her in a refrigerator and a hotel-room safe.

The rest of the story, including a videotaped confession, lives here.
Now, we can understand putting the baby in the microwave for protection. It's a metal box, you can't get the door open unless you've got opposable thumbs, it's not the best place, but it'll do in a pinch. We put leftover cinnamon rolls in there to keep them away from the dogs all the time.
Disorganized as we are, we don't have any small children, certainly none who would fit inside our microwave. We're pretty sure that there are safer places, but we'll allow that you have to go with what you've got. That said, putting the baby in the microwave is one thing. Turning it on with the baby in it is something else.
