: Freedom to DifferFilter delayed ... again
THE ISP filter legislation faces a further lengthy delay following the cancellation of a meeting of state attorneys-general scheduled for this week.
Earlier this month Communications Minister Stephen Conroy said that the legislation would be deferred to allow a review of the refused classification material central to the mandatory filter policy.
At the time, Senator Conroy said that Standing Committee of Attorneys-General (SCAG) would meet this week to discuss the RC review, which was meant to last for 12 months.
However, a spokeswoman for SCAG said that the meeting would be postponed until November 22.
The spokeswoman said that SCAG made the decision as the government had been placed in caretaker mode.
The delay would also impact on efforts to introduce an adult gaming category.
Senator Conroy could not be reached for comment at the time of publication. Labor will introduce mandatory filtering -- a scheme it introduced in 2007 -- if it wins the August 21 election.
