: New York City Personal Injury LawyerNY Brain Lab Halts Studies
By Chrissie Cole
Research has been halted at a brain-imaging center at Columbia University after federal officials questioned the quality of medications being used on patients.
In a series of inspections, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) found the center had failed to fix problems in a lab that makes experimental drugs that are injected into psychiatric patients.
An FDA office in New York outlined problems dating back as far as 2004, in one warning letter. Federal officials also found a document altered to hide a drug impurity.
The problems at the center involved radioligands, which are drugs injected into a patient's brain to assist in capturing images.
The New York Times first broke the story on Friday. On Saturday, Columbia University Medical Center sent a statement to the AP saying was restricting the laboratory that produces the drugs for the Kreitchman PET Center.
