. . . we made it to our new home state of Oregon. Not to Portland, mind you. We spent the night in Pendleton in the eastern part of the state. We were driving only about 200-250 miles a day out of consideration for two little boys who were strapped into car seats, so it took a total of 7 days to get from Iowa City to Portland. Since then, we've endured Portland's worst heat wave in about 30 years (nearly 3 weeks of 90+ degree days, with three in a row over 100); a freak snowstorm that shut the city down and clogged the streets with abandoned cars; and days and days of cool rain in the spring.
Ah, but there's good dim sum and sushi in town, and I still remember the awesome Halloween evening Oregon-USC football game, resulting in the fourth year in a row where USC has lost a game in the state of Oregon.
