Challenge to DC Same-Sex Marriage Law Rejected

The District of Columbia Court of Appeals ruled  5-4 Thursday that foes of Washington’s same-sex marriage law cannot get a ballot question inviting voters to reverse the statute.

D.C. officials had the authority to keep the issue off the ballot in a referendum, the court ruled, according to articles by the Associated Press and by the Washington Post.

Bishop Harry Jackson, a leader of the gay marriage opponents, said he and his lawyers planned to take the matter to the U.S. Supreme Court.
