Call for Papers: MLEA at the University of Colorado

By Lawrence Solum

ADVERTISEMENTS
CALL FOR PAPERS & CONFERENCE INFORMATION:
Midwest Law & Economics Association Annual Meeting
October 8-9, 2010
University of Colorado Law School

Basic Info: The Midwest Law and Economics Association (MLEA) annual meeting will be Friday, October 8th, and Saturday, October 9th, 2010, at the University of Colorado Law School in Boulder, Colorado. For those who have not been to MLEA before, you need not be a midwesterner, nor an economist; the event consists of law professors and economists presenting papers with varying degrees of law and economics content, ranging from empirical analyses and formal economic modeling to legal philosophy and doctrinal papers infused with economic thinking. There is no membership or registration fee. This year?s meeting is sponsored by the University of Colorado Law School as well as its Silicon Flatirons Center for Law, Technology, and Entrepreneurship. Presentations will start Friday morning and end mid-late Saturday afternoon; there will be an on-campus dinner and reception Friday night, as well as an informal off-campus dinner Saturday night following the end of the conference.

Submissions: To submit a presentation, email me at scott.moss@colorado.edu with an abstract or paper by September 1, 2010. Please title the email ?MLEA Submission ? {Name}? or I promise there is a chance I will lose it. A conference schedule, and RSVP information for conference meals, will be circulated in September. Submission is open to all, so feel free to share this announcement with colleagues.

Hotels:

We have the following rate hold at the Hotel Boulderado (2115 13th Street, Boulder, CO 80302, www.boulderado.com), a nice hotel that is our most popular one for visitors. It?s about 1.75 miles from the law school; we will have shuttle busses to and from the Boulderado at the beginning and end of the day. Call them at 800-433-4344 and mention reservation code ?BID #7502? to get the below rates, which are good for 10/5/10 to 10/13/10 (the rates do not include the 10.25% tax and are based on double occupancy, with an extra $15 charge per additional guest):
? Traditional Queen (1 Queen Bed, No Rollaways Available): $149.00
? Deluxe Two Queens (2 Queen Beds: $169.00
      ? Boulderado King (1 King Bed): $184.00
? Classic King (1 King Bed w/ Special Features): $199.00
? Suite (Living Room with Sleeper Sofa): $239.00

Alternatively, there are hotels that are cheaper and walking distance (4-5 minutes) from the law school. We haven?t used them recently so I can?t swear by them, but I?m told they?re decent motel-like places. We don?t have a rate hold, but below are rates currently posted for our dates:
      ? Best Western Boulder Inn, 770 28th St, Boulder, CO 80303, 800-233-8469 ($102)
      ? Boulder Outlook Hotel & Suites, 800 28th St, Boulder, CO 80303, 800-542-0304 ($89-$99)
Finally, if you choose to stay in Denver rather than Boulder, please make sure to stay downtown or somewhere else in the north of Denver (a 30-45 minute drive from the law school, depending on exact location and time of day), not in south Denver (where many locations are over an hour from the law school). Driving Directions: The law school does not have an actual street address, just a campus address that does not show up on Google Maps and the like. In an online search, you can enter that it is on the corner of North Broadway & Baseline Road, Boulder CO 80302, and the entrance to the parking lot is a quarter-mile up North Broadway, at the corner of North Broadway & Regent Drive, Boulder CO 80302. Absent traffic, the law school is about 30-45 minutes from downtown Denver and about 45-55 minutes from Denver International Airport.
