: Legal Pad | LAMcTiernan pleads guilty in Pellicano wiretapping case
By Richard Binder
Film director John McTiernan has pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI and a federal judge about having paid Anthony Pellicano $50,000 to wiretap a Hollywood producer's phone. McTiernan's lawyers have described the plea as a "conditional guilty plea that maintains his right
to appeal numerous pre-trial motions filed by the government and granted
by the judge."
McTiernan had pleaded guilty in 2006 to hiring Pellicano to wiretap producer Charles Roven after they had worked together on the film "Rollerball." He was later allowed to withdraw that plea because he hadn?t gotten a hearing on a request to suppress evidence.
If the director wins his appeal, he will be able to withdraw his guilty plea again.
