Hezbollah Rocket Attack Victims Sue Al-Jazeera in SDNY

By Eric Lipman

ADVERTISEMENTS
Yesterday, victims of Hezbollah rocket attacks and relatives of those who were killed in such attacks filed a lawsuit (.pdf) in U.S. District Court in New York against the Al-Jazeera TV network. The plaintiffs allege that Al-Jazeera, in 2006, broadcast live video of rocket attack sites inside Israel, in violation of Israeli law, in order to aid Hezbollah in hitting its targets. The complaint alleges that the rockets had no "internal guidance system," and thus Hezbollah needed real-time information about the location of rocket impact so as to guide subsequent strikes. This information was provided by Al-Jazeera, the complaint alleges, and it constituted the provision of "extensive material support and resources" to the terrorist group. The case has been assigned to Judge Kimba Wood. Here is a link to the press release issued by the plaintiffs' attorneys, and a link to the AP story on the lawsuit.
