: Illinois Medical Malpractice BlogLasik Eye Surgeon Guilty of Medical Malpractice
By Steven M. Levin and John J. Perconti
ABC Denver recently reported on a medical malpractice verdict issued against Dr. Paul Cutarelli. Dr. Cutarelli performed Lasik eye surgeries on patients in several states. With the vision correction surgery becoming more popular, Dr. Cutarelli?s business began to boom. He opened separate offices in different states and is said to have performed more than 60,000 of the eye correction surgeries.
However, some of Dr. Cutarelli?s patients claimed that their vision worsened following the surgery. One of the victims filed sued against the doctor. A jury ultimately sided with the former patient, finding Dr. Cutarelli guilty of medical malpractice for failing to use reasonable skill, care, and knowledge on more than one occasion.
Since the verdict, even more victims of Dr. Cutarelli?s negligence have come forward. This has prompted the Colorodo Department of Regulatory Agencies to being a more in-depth investigation into Dr. Cutarelli?s practice.
Anyone considering Lasik eye surgery should take special care to ensure that the surgeon they chose to perform the procedure is properly qualified and without a record of medical error. Often, physicians who perform these popular corrective operations decide to sacrifice quality in an effort to increase profits.
All surgery involves certain risks, and not every complication is a result of negligent action by your medical provider. However, all too often, an investigation into post surgical complications reveal that doctor error did in fact lead to patient damage. Our medical malpractice attorneys at Levin & Perconti have fought for those victims time and again. Please contact our office and explain your story, and we will help to determine if your complication was the result of a negligent doctor. Nothing is more important than your health. You deserve fair compensation if medical mistakes have lead to your harm.
