I want to share a little business secret with you.
It?s a secret that when you first hear, you’ll probably say, ‘of course.’ Yet it?s a secret that often separates highly successful businesses websites from the tens of millions of websites that aren’t.
Secret: For your business website to be successful, it must NEVER be finished!
No matter how well developed your business website is; no matter how many years you?ve had it up or how many customers you’ve served and products you’ve sold; and no matter how much money you?re making ? your business website will forever be a work in progress.
If you’re like most people, your reaction was either a token ‘of course’ and then you give it no more thought, or it was ‘huh?’ and feel confused.
So let me answer ‘huh?’ first.
Your business website needs to always be a work in progress
For your website to effectively help you reach your business goals, it must always be ‘a work-in-progress.’ That’s because if you feel it’s ever finished, then you stop learning how to better serve your market with it. In essence, you stop learning and your business stops growing through the web. So your website needs to be something that you watch, track and evaluate often so you can continue to learn.
Now, for those whose reaction was the ‘of course.’ Let me ask you, is your site doing all it can for promoting your business? Is it producing all the inquiries, signups, clients and sales you can manage? If not, it’s most likely because you’ve stopped learning from your website. Which ultimately means you’ve stopped learning about your audience. And when you don’t know what your audience wants, they don’t buy from you.
You want progress with your business website.
You see, most people work really hard to get a website up. But once it’s launched, progress often stops. Yet progress is quintessential to having a website that’s growing your business.
For just a second, let’s consider what ‘progress’ means: According to The New Oxford Dictionary progress is the, ?advancement or development toward a better, more complete condition.?
So by definition, if progress has stopped on your business website, then so has your ‘advancement toward a better condition’ with your website.
Don’t make the same mistakes as your competitors.
So don’t make the mistake that thousands of your competitors and peers are doing right now by thinking that your website is ever finished. It’s not. I should forever be a work-in-progress. Its should be something that you’re constantly learning from and adjusting as you find better and better ways to reach your audience and convert them into buyers.
So are you making changes and adjustments to your website as you learn more? If not, why not?
Is your business website a work-in-progress? How?
What?s one thing, today, you can do to advance your business toward a better, more complete condition?
