The Magistrate's Blog is twice as popular in the UK as the official Magistrates Association website (which has the egregious error that its "ticker" only works with IE). We like to read the Magistrate's Blog because it is so very "English", and typical for that is the posting Another One Bites The Dust, where the magistrate writes:
"As I have said before, in the early days a lot of people were very cross about this blog, and I am sure that I would have been hauled over the coals if the authorities had known who I was."
Marcel Berlins (.uk) posts at the Guardian. The unwritten Constitution of the UK has led to the posting Our untidy constitution serves Britain well.
MassLawBlog is a blog by Lee Gesmer about "IP, business law, Internet law, antitrust and practice in the Massachusetts state and federal courts." He hits a very important failing of many people in his blog posting Smith Barney/Citigroup: Darn, Foiled Again! when he writes:
"Albert Einstein once said that ?the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.?" Think about it. We probably all have something we could change starting right now to get better results than we have been getting. Golf season is starting.
Media Law Prof Blog notes at The Wireless Spectrum and Regulation: "Phil Weiser, University of Colorado Law School, and Dale Hatfield, University of Colorado at Boulder, have published "Spectrum Policy Reform and the Next Frontier of Property Rights" in volume 60 of the George Mason Law Review (2007)...."
See that posting for a link to the Abstract of the Article which "addresses three central questions that confront the design and implementation of property rights in spectrum. "
mediator blah...blah...
obviously blogs about mediation and in 3 edgy posts out there in the blogosphere today cites to Goals of Mediation from Civil Negotiation and Mediation's Nancy Hudgins comparing the goals of lawyers and mediators in mediation:
"For instance, having clients get closure; lawyers 46% - mediators 76 %.
Wait it gets worse. For parties to feel heard; lawyers 43% - mediators 92%".
But does that statistic really tell us anything we already did not know?
Michael Geist (.ca)
Michael Geist blogs about Canadian copyright law, for example New Canadian Business IP Coalition on the Way.
More Partner Income posts recently about Generation Y Attorneys - Is It Lack Of Motivation, Or A Difference In Focus?, writing:
"... I was reading in the February 2008 issue of the Harvard Business Review. An article titled, Task, Not Time: Profile of a Gen Y Job, caught my eye. I often hear managing attorneys lament the lack of motivation of associates. The article in the HBR may provide a reason for the disconnect - it isn't that young associates are not motivated, but that they may respond differently than their elders to the conventions of work. Where many look to the hours you spend at the office as a measure of productivity, the HBR article suggests that the younger generation looks more to results, or task-based productivity."
Naked Law (.uk) "is written by technology lawyers from Mills & Reeve. Our team is (mostly) based in Cambridge, England. We write about the latest legal and regulatory developments relating to information and communication technology, e-commerce, and privacy." Searching for the truth touches upon the vagaries of English patent law.
Nearly Legal (.uk) posts about "The Joy of Housing Law". The Pyramid Scheme takes a sober look at paralegals and law in the United Kingdom.
Nolo Intellectual Propery commented recently on Turnitin.com as follows:
"Turnitin.com is a repository for student papers and bills itself as ?the standard in plagiarism prevention.? According to the company?s website, your paper will be compared to 15 million (or 40 million, depending on who you believe) papers that Turnitin already has on file.
One question that arises from the company?s use of student papers is whether it?s committing copyright infringement. The company says no, that it?s a fair use because they?re using the papers for a transformative purpose ? catching cheaters. When students object to the practice, the lawyers for Turnitin.com respond that their website prevents copying by students ? a goal of copyright law." Read the whole posting.
