Grades can be irrelevant.

ADVERTISEMENTS

At Legal Writing Prof Blog, on-line pal and scholarship dude James Levy suggests a correlation between a law student?s grade in legal research & writing and overall law-school success. In response, I offer two personal facts:

  1. My grade in legal research & writing was C+.
  2. At graduation, I ranked 5th in my class of just under 200. That C+ tied for the lowest grade I received in any law-school course.
I would add that I write a blog about legal writing, but that?s irrelevant; anyone can write a blog about anything they want. But based on my own experience, I offer this advice to law students: What you learn in a course is more important than your grade for that course.
