: Brain Injury News and InformationFederal TBI Interagency conference announced
By Michael Kaplen
The 3rd Federal Interagency Conference on TBI has been announced and scheduled to be held on June 13-15, 2011 at the Washington Hilton, Washington, DC. The planning committee has invited proposals for presentations at this conference.
The first Federal Interagency Conferences were held in 1999 and the second in 2006. I attended these conferences and found them to be highly informative. The attendance at these conferences far exceeded expectations of the planning committee and was way beyond the capacity of the hotel.
As a result of this enthusiasm, the continued focus of TBI in the media and the need for researchers, clinicians and policy makers to ?get out? the ?latest and greatest? advances in TBI research and clinical care, a third conference is to be sponsored by a consortium of Federal Agencies. The conference will bring together both civilian and military research efforts.
Clinicians, researchers, allied health professionals, and consumers are all invited to participate in this conference. The intent of the conference is to provide an opportunity to learn about the seminal advances in TBI research and clinical care that have served to advance the field and to change service, practice and policy.
The Program Committee invites proposals for 90 minute symposia, focusing on evidence-based medicine, to be submitted. Symposia proposals that are multi-institutional and/or multi-agency are encouraged.
Potential presenters are encouraged to submit early. The submission window is open from June 1, 2010 to September 1, 2010.
Important Dates:
June 2010 ? symposium submission opens
July 1, 2010 ? early hotel and conference registration opens
October 1, 2010 ? Early career poster abstract submission
Symposium organizers are encouraged to formulate proposals to fall into one of the following 3 outcomes for the conference:
Outcome #1: Effective Practices that Improve Community Integration and Long-Term Outcomes for Individuals with TBI
Outcome #2: Seminal Advances in TBI Research
Outcome #3: Role of Technology in Expanding Rehabilitation and Community Services to Individuals with Traumatic Brain Injury
