A Summit on the Constitutional Right to Counsel

The Constitutional Right to Counsel Summit will be held Tuesday, June 15th, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 p.m., in Room 2141 of the Rayburn House Office Building, in Washington, DC.  The event is open to the public.The Summit will bring together members of Congress, congressional staff, judges, prosecutors, scholars, public defenders, and other legal practitioners to discuss the impact the current public defense crisis is having on the effective operation of states' criminal justice systems and examine the federal government's role in ensuring that every state meets its Sixth Amendment responsibility to provide competent counsel. Rep. John Conyers (D-MI), chair of the House Judiciary Committee, and Rep. Bobby Scott (D-VA), chair of the House Crime Subcommittee, are co-sponsoring the Summit...continue to full post
