For the first time in the firm?s history, Duane Morris has selected a partner outside of its Philadelphia headquarters?and a relatively new partner at that ? to lead one of its major practice groups.
Baltimore office managing partner George Nemphos will take over as head of the firm?s 130-attorney corporate practice group from John Horstmann who has held the position for five years.
Nemphos joined the firm in 2007 as part of a group of four DLA Piper partners who made the move, helping to build Duane Morris? presence in Baltimore. He has headed up that office since joining and will continue in that role in addition to running the corporate group. The office now consists of 20 lawyers practicing across several disciplines.
?During the past five years, John Horstmann has led the corporate group with great skill and vision,? Duane Morris Chairman John Soroko said in a statement. ?I know that I speak for the entire firm when I thank John for his service in that role. George has proven himself an accomplished corporate lawyer, an entrepreneurial thinker and a skilled business leader. I?m confident that he will bring great energy, enthusiasm and focus to the group as its new chair.?
Nemphos has experience representing both private and public companies, venture capitalists and angel investors, with particular emphasis on private equity funds and deals.
He isn?t a stranger to the firm?s management or leadership within his practice group. Nemphos is a member of the firm?s national governing partners board and has helped in the corporate group?s lateral partner recruiting process. He also served as the group?s marketing partner.
