Sheriff Hits and Kills Woman Parked on Shoulder of 405 Freeway

A woman was killed on Monday after her 2007 Toyota Scion was involved in a collision with a 1984 Toyota pickup. The pickup was then struck by a patrol unit occupied by two on-duty sheriff's deputies sending the woman's vehicle into oncoming traffic. According to CHP, it is unclear whether the woman, Lisa Hylla of North Hills, was thrown from the vehicle or exited on her own at some point.

The accident occured on the northbound 405 near the Devonshire exit arund 2:20 a.m.

"At this time it has not been determined whether this incident is one sequence of events, indicating one collision, or two separate events indicating more than one collision. Also at this time, the impact which forced the driver of the 2007 Toyota into the southbound lanes of traffic has not been determined," a CHP statement said.
