: Legal Pad | LA'Bling ring' burglar's confession and cooperation not a plea deal
By Richard Binder
Nicholas Prugo, 19, is charged along with four others in the now-infamous "bling ring" burglaries. Prugo's attorneys, Daniel A. Horowitz and Mark Dombois, argued that their client had a "tacit contract" and implied deal with the Los Angeles Police Department when he gave them detailed accounts of the burglaries, including the names of his accomplices.
Deputy District Attorney Sarika Kim argued that police never promised Prugo immunity or leniency. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Darrell Mavis agreed with Kim that the discussions Prugo had with the police did not amount to a plea-bargain agreement for leniency.
Prugo and his accomplices are slated for a preliminary hearing May 25.
