SSP and NSSTA 2010 Annual Meetings-3: What's MIssing Patrick? And WHY?

By John Darer

ADVERTISEMENTS

Ever been hit up with a sales pitch where your intuition just tells you "the dude is leaving something out"?  When that happens to me I'm motivated to ask " Is there something else I should be asking? Such is the case with Patrick Hindert's latest post "SSP and NSSTA Annual Meetings-3"

On the one hand Hindert goes into detail about the 5 newly elected members of the Board of Directors, the granular details about outside counsel, their new executive director and associated executive director and the two gentlemen that preceded the new Executive Director. On the other hand when it comes to the Society of Settlement Planners, Hindert simply identifies the newly named President and Vice-President of the SSP.

GIven that Hindert has named the entire cast of newly elected members of the NSSTA Board of Directors, WHY has he not done so for the SSP? Surely his readers would want to know.

Naming Bentzen Funding Solutions' Rhonda Bentzen, a member of the factoring industry to the SSP Board is HUGE news. It is significant because the SSP must now justify to the public, to the trial lawyer community and to prospective members, WHY it has made the ballsy decision to name Bentzen, who is from an industry somewhat reviled by trial lawyers, to its Board of Directors.

"I could see that girl was no good for me

But I was lost like a slave that no man could free"    Tom Jones

Even the National Association of Trial lawyer Executives (NATLE) which has flashes the banner of Strategic Capital as a sponsor on its website give Strategic Capital a seat on its Board of Directors. The SSP cannot hide from this and neither can Hindert.

Hindert's omission of this is highly suspect given that (1) Hindert has been a huge PROPONENT of factoring based on the prima facie evidence of his blog posts in the last half decade;  (2) Hindert has been highly critical of NSSTA for not providing factoring education to its members at its meetings while praising the SSP (3) Hindert has been heavily involved in programming at NASP Annual meetings; AND (4) according to our sources, Hindert showed up at the SSP meeting with Eddie Stone, formerly of JG Wentworth and a few other "cash now" notables despite previously being informed that his guest was not welcome. Where is Hindert's praise of Rhonda Bentzen?

One would also think that the omitted news that Jack Meligan, the founding President of SSP was named to the SSP Board would be no less significant than the stated news that Len Blonder, a former President and Director of NSSTA was named to its Board. Were there any other individuals named to the SSP Board, Hindert?
