Full-Sized Cribs by Simplicity Recalled

By Greg Webb

ADVERTISEMENTS

The CPSC has recalled all of company Simplicity's full-sized cribs, citing the potential risk of an infant being caught between the mattress and the frame and suffocating or strangling to death.

The mattress rests upon metal support beams, posing an entrapment hazard should the mattress collapse between beams with child caught in the cushion. A one month old suffocated to death in April 2008 when he became trapped, and 13 other incidents have been cited as being caused by the metal beams bending or breaking while an infant lay atop them. The CPSC has instructed owners not to modify or attempt to repair the cribs and to immediately discontinue use.

Because Simplicity and its successor, SFCA, Inc., are out of business, there is limited information available regarding the model numbers of items associate with this recall. The following model numbers are involved (in addition to ALL full-size cribs): 8755, 8324, 4600, 8740, 8994, 8676 and 8910.

The cribs were sold at retail stores such as Wal-Mart and Target nationwide and owners should contact the store they purchased their cribs at directly for a refund or store credit.
