Jazz Fest postscript

ADVERTISEMENTS

I had planned to use my Brass Pass to attend all seven days of Jazz Fest. Unfortunately, I missed two days because, well, I?m a lawyer, and sometimes the client?s needs preempt a lawyer?s plans. Still, I think I got my money?s worth. Here are the acts I managed to see, hear, and dance to over five of seven days:

  • The Archdiocese of New Orleans Mass Gospel Choir
  • Bonerama
  • Walter ?Wolfman? Washington & the Roadmasters
  • Simon & Garfunkel
  • The Preservation Hall Jazz Band
  • Theresa Andersson
  • Wayne Toups & Zydecajun
  • Marcia Ball
  • The Allman Brothers Band
  • J. Monque?D Blues Band
  • Buckwheat Zydeco
  • Eric Lindell
  • John Mooney
  • Allen Toussaint
  • Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi
  • Russell Batiste Jr. & Friends
  • Henry Butler
  • Anders Osborne
  • Chris Thomas King
  • Sonny Landreth
  • Jeff Beck
  • The Zulu Male Gospel Ensemble
  • Clarence ?Frogman? Henry
  • Trombone Shorty & Orleans Ave.
  • Van Morrison
My best day, undoubtedly, was yesterday (second Saturday, May 1). That day included Henry Butler (George Winston?s favorite piano player), Anders Osborne, Sonny Landreth (the world?s best slide-guitar player), and Jeff Beck (no parenthetical needed). Some acts I sacrificed that day: Rebirth Brass Band, BeauSoleil, Aaron Neville (in the Gospel Tent), Pearl Jam, and Kenny Wayne Shepherd. If I can ever learn bi-location, Jazz Fest will present fewer dilemmas.
