: Magic CookieFaith in politicians
I didn't have a huge emotional attachment to Spitzer, but I did buy the hype about a tough, highly ethical politician who wasn't afraid to take on the bad guys wherever he found them.
Politicians can be hypocrites. Like this is something we didn't know.
Still, in the past couple of years, I've let my guard down. I campaigned for Deval Patrick. His slogan was "Believe again." And I did. I did believe in him, and to a much lesser extent in Barack Obama. (And I also like Kevin Rudd, but I'm safe there because I can't vote for him.)
As shocked as I was about Spitzer, I think I would actually feel betrayed if something like that came out about Deval Patrick. I feel invested in him. But maybe it's foolish to have faith in politicians.
