: Food Safety NewsActivity Book, Game Teach Kids Food Safety
By Dan Flynn and Suzanna Schreck
Be Food Safe Activity Book
The Be Food Safe Activity Book offered on the Webpage can easily be downloaded off the site. This activity book contains twelve pages of word searches, crossword puzzles, word scrambles, and mazes. Each puzzle or game exemplifies the importance of different food safety principles such as washing your hands, separating uncooked and cooked food, cooking food to the right temperature, and refrigerating food after cooking.
The Activity Book, which was developed through collaboration with the Partnership for Food Safety Education, is colorful and easy for children to do on their own, or with the help of parents. It is an engaging activity that will keep them entertained and teach them food safety principles at the same time.
Food Safety Mobile Game
The site also offers a Food Safety Mobile game (flash player required). This is a fun and interactive computer game that allows children to drive a car down the road, occasionally being stopped by food safety workers to answer questions.
Each question is about bacteria and food safety. Users are given four multiple-choice answers and must choose the correct answer to the question from the options provided. If the right answer is not chosen, the correct answer will be given to the user with an explanation of why it's correct.
Children must look at their "safe food-odometer" to see how many questions they have answered correctly.
The FSIS page specifically meant for kids and teens also offers articles on food safety for college students. These articles include questions regarding tailgating food, dorm food, and microwave safety.
