Two Memorials and a Concert

P2210043 This was a very full weekend -- with two moving memorials in Chapel Hill.  One for a student, Eric Bryant, who passed away earlier this semester.  It was held in the ancient chapel here on campus, Gerrard Hall.  Tough, to say the least. On Sunday afternoon there was a memorial for Dan Pollitt, whom Eric blogged about a few weeks back when he passed away.

Sandwiched between them was a terrific concert as part of a conference to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of SNCC, at Shaw University.  There were a lot heroes in one large room -- from Harry Belafonte and Danny Glover to Len Chandler and Robert Moses.  That was a once in a lifetime chance to hear the civil rights version of the battle hymn of the republic and classics like Eyes on the Prize, and We Shall Overcome.
