: Philip Brooks’ Patent Infringement UpdatesInvention Analysis and Claiming Seminar
By Philip Brooks
Based on Ronald Slusky's widely praised book, the Invention Analysis and Claiming Seminar teaches a comprehensive approach to analyzing inventions and capturing them in a sophisticated set of patent claims. Through this interactive seminar, participants will enhance their skills in a classroom setting.
The Seminar is being held this year in New York (May 3-4), Boston (May 17-18), Washington DC (May 24-25), Chicago (June 7-8), Santa Clara (June 10-11) and Las Vegas (June 14-14).
This seminar is not about claim drafting mechanics but, rather, invention analysis based on the problem/solution paradigm, so it is appropriate for patent practitioners at all experience levels. For example, a 20-year veteran who attended said that the seminar was ?Exceptionally stimulating [and] made me think." Among the other topics covered, we also spend time talking about the Anticipated Enforcement Scenario?that is, how to structure the focus of the claims so as to capture the activities of direct infringers.
Various sessions will look at?
- Why simply whittling down a claim may not capture the broad invention.
- The problem-solution statement as the key to discovering the breadth of the invention.
- -How to draft independent claims based on the problem-solution statement and the inventive departure.
- Using the paradigm of the Planned Retreat to draft meaningful dependent claims.
