: Legal Pad | LAACLU suit has governor's support

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has thrown his support behind the ACLU's lawsuit against the Los Angeles Unified School District, additionally proposing legislation that would give school districts more flexibility to manage their staffing and resources based on student needs.
The governor delivered his message outside Markham Middle School in Watts, where according to his office half the teaching staff received layoff notices last year because state law considers only seniority in determining teacher layoffs.
The ACLU suit accuses LAUSD f disproportionately impacting low-income and minority campuses with teacher layoffs.
