NJ Construction Worker Falls to His Death First Day on the Job

By Paul Napoli

ADVERTISEMENTS

A construction worker died Wednesday morning in a fall on a hotel renovation jobsite, NJ.com reports.

The accident happened about 9:00 a.m. at the White Pearl Hotel in Seaside Heights. While working on renovations to the hotel, Graham Stirling, 43, of Toms River fell four stories to the ground below.

Stirling was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the Ocean County medical examiner, he died from injuries to his head, chest and abdomen received in the fall.

Murph Construction Co. Inc., of Seaside Heights, is in charge of the hotel's renovation project. Stirling started working for the company on Sunday and Wednesday, the day of his death, was his first day at the White Pearl Hotel jobsite.

The cause of Stirling's fall is under investigation by police and they sent notification of the accident to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Construction accidents are not always the fault of the worker, often they can be attributed to the carelessness of managers or other people who are running the job site. Construction companies must follow strict jobsite safety regulations, including rules governing heavy equipment operation, scaffolding and safety equipment, to ensure the safety of workers and the public.

If you have been injured in a construction accident, you may be able to be compensated for your injury or a loved one's death if you talk to our lawyers. Many factors must be taken into consideration when determining if an injury or death was the result of negligence, equipment failure or dangerous worksite conditions.
