AT&T Whistle Blower: 'Congress Wants To Cover It Up'

By Ryan Singel, Kevin Poulsen, Sarah Lai Stirland, Kim Zetter, and David Kravets

ADVERTISEMENTS

Boing Boing's Xeni Jardin wrangled AT&T whistleblower Mark Klein and EFF legal director Cindy Cohn into an interview by a bank of phone booths at last week's O'Reilly Emerging Technology conference for a quick video segment (below).

The accompanying blog post mentions and links to THREAT LEVEL's post last week on another whistleblower who claims a major wireless gives the government unfettered access to its backend systems.

Those claims mirror ones made in a lawsuit filed against Verizon Wireless, though the computer security consultant making the allegations says he has not named the company.

For those who have never heard Klein speak, here's a good chance to hear from a man who believed what his high school civics teacher taught, but now is deeply disillusioned about American democracy.

For those of you more interested in an easy laugh, you should at least watch the first nine seconds.

And just to toot our own horn, although Wired wasn't the first to write about the Klein documents, we did acquire them while they were under court seal (from a party not subject to the gag order) and publish them for geeks of the world to analyze. (Explanation here.)
