Spitzer's Sorry

By Andrea

ADVERTISEMENTS

I'm pretty disappointed by the news that anti-corruption crusader Eliot Spitzer was a client of a high-priced prostitution ring. I don't like to be the kind of person who's incredibly cynical about politics and thinks everyone powerful is corrupt or a sleazebag, and while going to call girls doesn't have the same effect on a politician's job as taking bribes or something, it changes his image quite a bit.

I hate press conferences where a male politician apologizes to his wife and the public for his indiscretions while his wife stands behind him silently. I always wonder what she's thinking, if she's wondering how her life ended up like this. Silda Wall Spitzer is an HLS grad, a former Skadden lawyer, an accomplished nonprofit supporter, and there she is, standing behind her apologizin' man.

I don't think I could do it. (PF often has political aspirations.) I'd be heartbroken and pissed. He could do the apology press conference, but I'd be in a hotel bar drinking a dirty martini and watching it on TV.

Then again, I don't think I'd be a very good political wife. Too mouthy, not enough makeup.

Sigh. Silda Wall Spitzer is supposed to be here on Friday at a big career panel. I bet that's not happening now.
