Surprise! Voters Don?t Like The Unlikable And Don?t Believe The Unbelievable

ADVERTISEMENTS

A recent Associate Press article quotes Robert Blendon, a Harvard professor of public policy, who professes ?surprise? that voters still don?t like Obamacare because, he says, ?you would expect people to be more supportive of the bill now that it?s the law of the land....?

You would? Well, maybe you would if you were a Harvard professor.

And the author of the AP article, Ricardo Alonso-zaldivar, is also surprised that ?the public? ? ignoramuses, apparently ? believes Obamacare will add to the deficit, despite being told by its betters that that?s not true.

Nonpartisan congressional budget analysts say the law is fully paid for. Its mix of Medicare cuts and tax increases, falling mainly on upper-income earners, would actually reduce the federal deficit. And people covered by large employers may even see a dip in their premiums.

The public doesn't seem to be buying it.

It?s not, of course, just ?the public? who?s not ?buying it.? Larry Sabato, the University of Virginia?s well known political prognosticator, recently exclaimed to a class in which the featured visitor was Sen. Jim Webb that ?The Congressional Budget Office numbers are a joke.?

Webb, who voted for the bill, was not quoted as disagreeing.
