Larry Solum just posted the first entry level hiring report.
Here?s an interesting question: who are the most influential law professors in terms of helping protégés get hired in the academy? Anecdotally and off the top of my head, I would guess Lucian Bebchuk and Elizabeth Warren have an outsized influence in this regard.
Perhaps this might lead to an additional metric for the influence of professors beyond citation counts. It might be quite a bit easier to gauge this level of influence for PhDs, for whom we could identify those who served on the dissertation committee. Perhaps as SJDs become more popular, we could do more empirical study. There might be other ways of measuring subtle influence, such as which professors receive the most acknowledgements at the beginning of articles. Commenting on papers is not only a service, but also a way to exercise influence over the marketplace of ideas.
Which professors do you think are influential in these regards?
