Pedestrian Killed by School Bus in Queens

A school bus struck a 59-year-old man as he crossed the street in Queens on Friday morning.

The New York Daily News reports that the accident happened about 6:45 a.m. as the bus transported one student. Traveling on Lefferts Boulevard, the bus made a right turn onto Liberty Avenue, but the driver did not see Permaul Tulkanam, of Queens, in the crosswalk and struck him.

An ambulance transported Tulkanam to Jamaica Hospital where he died from his injuries.

The student was also taken to Jamaica Hospital for observation, NY1.com reports.

Several area residents told NY1 News that the intersection is often busy and can be dangerous.
