Some Tips for Organizing Your Work Space

By Michael Progar

ADVERTISEMENTS
When getting ready to do your spring cleaning, don't forget to clean up and organize your desk and work area. Here are a few tips from The National Association of Professional Organizers:
  • Find one hour of uninterrupted time each day to tackle action items and projects on a timely basis.
  • Avoid looking at documents and then placing them back on your desk. Use the R.A.F.T. principle: refer the matter to someone else, act on the item, file the paper, or toss it.
  • Keep your desk clear of everything except supplies you need on a constant basis and the project you are working on. Take time to clear your desk off at the end of the day so that you can begin the next day feeling organized.
  • Create a filing system for both electronic and paper documents so that you don't have to waste time searching for them later.
