Reasons You Love NRO -- By: Jack Fowler

ADVERTISEMENTS

Reasons You Love NRO, in no particular order (which, when viewed collectively, will make you reach for your credit card because, friend -- boy, oh, boy, do we need your help):

Andy McCarthy. He put the Blind Sheikh in the can, he led the fight to get Eric Holder and the Guantanamo Hate Club to back off from holding terrorist trials in NYC, he?s a top-flight constitutional expert -- and he writes on NRO practically every day.

Mark Steyn. Is there anything better than firing up the PC at 6 am, heading over to the Corner, and finding a Steyn post waiting? What would that glorious blog be sans the great sage of everything from politics and demographics to show tunes and speech codes?

VDH. ?Nuff said.

Geraghty. Whether he?s at the Campaign Spot or giving you your Morning Jolt, Big Jim provides the shrewdest and wittiest daily look at politics and what?s happening on the hustings.

The font of wisdom that is David Pryce-Jones and his great blog, David Calling.

Impromptus. Typically twice a week, sometimes more, we can count on Jay Nordlinger?s wide-ranging and hugely popular ruminations on anything and everything from liberty to the media hypocrites, from the English language to golf.

As the never-ending campaign to sell Obamacare to the American people continues, Critical Condition?s think-tank brain power makes that blog essential reading for anyone concerned about the health of the Republic.

Planet Gore. Where Ed Craig, Greg Pollowitz, Henry Payne, Chris Horner, and other members of the Debunking Squad take the temperature of the Chicken Littles proclaiming rising oceans, melting glaciers, evaporating ice caps, and hockey-stick graphs.

(By the way, that?s when Greg P. is not working on Media Blog with Kevin Williamson and overseeing the Feed.)

Ed Whelan is a one-man Federalist Society, making (with regular assists from Jonathan Adler) the popular Bench Memos blog the conservative go-to place whenever the folks in black robes bloviate.

I?d try to say something nice about Jonah, but I?m still trying to get over him exposing me exposing me as a bird-squasher.

Rich, Ramesh, Radio Derb, K-Lo, Stephen Spruiell, Dan Foster, Robert Costa, Peter Robinson and Uncommon Knowledge, the Tweet Tracker, Phi Beta Cons (keeping NRO fans up to speed on campus insanities), John J. Miller and his fascinating author interviews at Between the Covers, Reihan Salam?s big-think analysis of domestic policy at The Agenda.

Our columnists: Mona Charen, Thomas Sowell, Charles Krauthammer, Michael Barone, Dennis Prager, Tony Blankley, Michelle Malkin, Larry Kudlow (plus his blog, Kudlow?s Money Politics), Mark Steyn, VDH, Rich, K-Lo, Jonah#...#

Hey, I?m just getting started. I haven?t mentioned the numerous free-standing articles and reviews and symposia we publish daily#...#

Doing all this costs a heap of wampum. Do we get ad revenue? Sure. Do we sell subscriptions and cruises and books and T-shirts? Heck yeah. But that collective moolah doesn?t come close to covering the costs of producing NRO.

We could just stick to doing an on-dead-tree magazine. But we have an obligation to our founder?s mission -- to stand athwart history yelling stop, now ?round the clock, 24/7, allowing us to fight instantly and constantly.

NRO?s admission is free. There?s no toll gate at the entrance. But the superior writing, the fine editing, the techno-stuff (accomplished amazingly by our undermanned staff): Comrades -- it doesn?t happen by magic.

We must rely on cold, hard cash to make this operation work (courtesy of an underpaid-but-overworked staff).

Please help us keep NRO alive and thriving this year. We have made a difference, and we will make an even bigger one -- with your help.

We?re all in this together. You?re under no obligation to pitch in, but on behalf of the causes in which we all believe and which we are all trying mightily to defend, please make a generous contribution now to help NRO out in 2010. Do it here.

You have the gratitude of the publisher, the editor, our colleagues, and Cosmo (my dog Martha could kick that mutt?s -- well, let?s save that for the special Michael Vick edition of NRO).

If you?ve already helped, thanks. If you can help some more, please do so. Again, contributions can be made safely and securely here.

With deep gratitude,

Jack Fowler
