: Salmonella BlogSalmonella-tainted Black Peppercorns Recalled
By Bill Marler
Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tommy Irvin is alerting consumers to the recall of some black peppercorns that may be contaminated with Salmonella.
Perfect Candy & Packaging Co., Reading, Pa., is recalling 2-ounce bags of Whole Black Peppercorns with an H.D.W. Foods Inc. label and UPC# 080869654293. The product is part of a larger recall of black pepper manufactured by the Mincing Overseas Spice Company and may be contaminated with Salmonella.
Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
For a complete list of recalls dealing with black pepper from the Mincing Overseas Spice Company, see the FDA website at: http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/default.htm
