China's Liechtenstein Effect.

By Dan Harris and Steve Dickinson

ADVERTISEMENTS
Whenever looking at the laws or actions of a another country, it is important to keep things in perspective. It just makes good sense to have some perspective on how things really are in your own country and in other countries, before expressing outrage at how things are in one particular country, as though that country is some sort of horrible outlier. I Not sure exactly where this China Sourcing post fits in terms of the above, but I do really like its analysis and I recommend everyone read it as it does a good job reminding us to be sure to look at our own glass houses before throwing stones. I am not saying one should not be throwing stones unless one lives in the best and most fortified house (not at all), but I am saying it does help to know where you live before you do so. The post is entitled, "From Liechtenstein to China - Bias in Government Procurement Practices," and what it does so well is point out that government procurement policies around the world generally greatly favor locals. Probably not anything new to most of you, but a good thing of which to remind us all these days. The bottom line is that if you are a foreign company wanting a fair shot at a government contract, you will be at a disadvantage just about everywhere, with the possible exception of Liechtenstein. I recommend you read it. What do you think?
