: Legal Pad | LATire dealer found liabile for child's death
By Richard Binder
American Tire Depot, a Southern California tire-store chain, was found negligent by a California jury for installing a 12-year-old tire on a Ford Explorer involved in a crash that killed an 11-year-old boy.
The Moreno family's Explorer rolled over on a Riverside highway in May of 2006, due to a catastrophic tread separation in the tire. The family's attorneys said the Morenos went to ATD to replace its two rear tires, and that ATD sold them one tire and told them to rotate the spare in.
The jury awarded an $18 million award to the Moreno family.
