Dan Walters: California's politicos dig deeper hole - Sacramento Politics - California Politics | Sacramento Bee

By STEPHEN HOLZER

ADVERTISEMENTS

Schwarzenegger, while claiming he's focused on "jobs, jobs, jobs," is nevertheless championing the massively expensive imposition of new costs on employers in the name of reducing the state's carbon footprint, even though the scientific premises of global warming become shakier by the day.

A recent Wall Street Journal article, for example, delved into how internal politics and external pressures compelled the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the supposed authority on the issue, to make pronouncements that oversimplified climate change and led to political policies not supported by conclusive scientific evidence.

Wouldn't it make sense to throttle back until our economy is healthier, until the scientific questions are answered definitively and until national carbon emission policy is clarified?

We could be undermining the state's economy for no other reason than Schwarzenegger's desire to leave a legacy for political history books.

From Dan Walter's Sacramento Bee column of today--he's no raving right-winger. When Walters starts questioning global warming, you know the bottom has fallen out of the theory.
