Construction Worker Injured in Aerial Lift Fall at Lower Merion High

By Paul Napoli

March 3, 2010

An accident involving an aerial lift at a school construction site in a Philly suburb has injured a worker, reported phillyBurbs.com.

On Monday afternoon, Mark Rieser, 50, of Lower Makefield, and his brother Keith moved an aerial lift into the deep end of an empty pool on the construction site of the new Lower Merion High School in Ardmore, PA to work on piping. The aerial lift had a four-wheeled motorized base and a bucket on an extendable arm. The 800-pound lift tipped over and trapped Mark Rieser beneath. His brother, the only person in the immediate vicinity, acted quickly and heaved the machinery off his brother.

Mark Rieser, husband to wife Kelly and father of six children, initially got to his feet and walked shortly before collapsing from his injuries. He suffered head trauma, including a broken nose and cheek. A helicopter airlifted him to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he underwent surgery and now listed in good condition.

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration will investigate the accident.

Construction accidents are not always the fault of the person who is operating the machinery, often they can be attributed to the carelessness of managers or other people who are running the job site. Construction companies must follow strict jobsite safety regulations, including rules governing heavy equipment operation, to ensure the safety of workers and the public.

If you have been injured in a construction accident, you may be able to be compensated for your injury or a loved one's death if you talk to our lawyers. Many factors must be taken into consideration when determining if an injury or death was the result of negligence, equipment failure or dangerous worksite conditions. You may be entitled to compensation for things such as medical expenses or pain and suffering, or the lost prospect of receiving an inheritance, loss of financial support and funeral expenses for the personal injury or wrongful death of a loved one.

At Napoli Bern Ripka LLP, we are experienced in personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits. We know that dealing with the death of a loved one is difficult. Contact us to discuss what you can do to recover for the loss call 888-529-4669 or visit www.NapoliBern.com today.
