Power’s out for me in rural Western MA due to two feet of wet, heavy snow, and I’m racing against a dying computer battery. But before I am forced to sign off, here are a couple links that have peaked my interest this morning:
- Norm Ornstein previews the concessions Obama might make to GOP tomorrow. But will they lead to any GOP votes? (Ezra Klein)
- Robert Reich calls on Congress to bust up the health care trusts (NYT)
- Sen. Jay Rockefeller, one of the leading public option proponents in the Senate, explains why he has given up on it now. Weak public option has ‘no value’ (The Hill)
- Is GOP planning a scorched Earth response if the Democrats use budget reconciliation? (Moderate Voice)
- Health care is nor stranger to the budget reconciliation process. “In fact, the way in which virtually all of health reform, with very, very limited exceptions, has happened over the past 30 years has been the reconciliation process.” (NPR)
- Sens. Corker and Dodd are nearing a bipartisan compromise on financial reform legislation, and it will likely be unveiled next week (WaPo).
- Any version of the “Volcker Rule” that gets included will likely be severely watered down, maybe useless (Baseline Scenario).
