A California boy who was shocked by a fallen power line, receiving life-threatening injuries, has filed a lawsuit against the power company and Santa Cruz County. According to the lawsuit, Jacob Kirkendall was at a birthday party on Rio del Mar State Beach when a tree branch broke and dislodged a power line, sparking a grass fire. The lawsuit says that Kirkendall was severely injured by the power line while trying to put the fire out. The lawsuit raises questions about why a safety mechanism didn’t de-energize the power line when it hit the ground and why the hillside where the power line fell isn’t fenced off. The lawsuit is seeking damages to cover medical costs, future lost earnings and other damages.
