12-month doctor's appointment

ADVERTISEMENTS
Quick recap: 15-20th percentile in both weight and height. Sounds about right for our family.

Time to start drinking whole milk instead of formula. The doctor said we could finish the formula we have, or start doing half-milk, half-formula. He said there's no need to wean to a cup until about 15 months and then we can do it gradually, switching out one bottle a day at first. Even though he eats a pretty balanced diet, I am a little nervous about missing the nutrients, especially iron, in formula.

Doctor also said we could expect lots of walking and talking over the next few months. Not a surprise -- he is taking steps toward both.

He got a chicken pox shot and was brave as usual. Yelled for a minute or two and then seemed fine, although a little surprised and sad that someone had hurt him. We need to go to the hospital lab to get his blood drawn for lead and anemia testing. Which means I need to hold him a second time while somebody sticks a needle in him. This kid is going to hate me.

This year he gets appointments at 15 and 18 months, then again at 24 months, and after that it's once a year. I also asked about the dentist -- he said we should take him when he's 3, but we should start brushing now. (No problem. K loves brushing. Although he loves watching me brush even more. He laughs when I spit in the sink.)
