ADVERTISEMENTS
Alaska's has a Good Samaritan law - found at AS 09.65.090. It limits liability (even AS 09.17.080 comparative fault) to benefit folks who are rendering emergency aid when an automobile accident occurs. Here is what the statute says:
AS 09.65.090. Civil Liability For Emergency Aid.
- (a) A person at a hospital or any other location who renders emergency care or emergency counseling to an injured, ill, or emotionally distraught person who reasonably appears to the person rendering the aid to be in immediate need of emergency aid in order to avoid serious harm or death is not liable for civil damages as a result of an act or omission in rendering emergency aid.

- If you are in an automobile accident - and injured while you are attempting to help another person, be aware of this law. Don't let the insurance companies bully you into thinking that any of the accident was your fault. Stand your ground. Insurance companies are notorious for blaming everybody other than their own insured. Don't let this happen to you.
- Also, remember that you are required to assert your claims for personal injury within two years. If you delay, you will lose valuable legal rights. Contact a qualified personal injury attorney ASAP to help you.
- Review www.SlowDownAlaska.org for more details.
- Be safe out there.
