Stewart Baker Joining Our Merry Company

I?m delighted to report that Stewart Baker will be joining us as a coblogger. Stewart ? one of UCLA School of Law?s most illustrious alumni ? has served as Assistant Secretary for Policy at the Department of Homeland Security, as General Counsel of the National Security Administration, and as General Counsel to the Commission on the Intelligence Capabilities of the United States Regarding Weapons of Mass Destruction; he has also long been a partner at Steptoe & Johnson. He has been Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, as well as many other governmental, industry, and nonprofit commissions and task forces. He is a man who knows things, and is even allowed to tell us some of what he knows.

Stewart?s new book, Skating on Stilts, will be published by the Hoover Press this year; the book discusses the dangers posed to national security ? which is to say to our security ? by various new technologies, and what needs to be done to deal with those dangers. Readers of Stewart?s work will recognize that he in many ways leans more towards the conservative rather than the libertarian, and I expect that Stewart and some of our more libertarian readers will find much to disagree about. But I?m sure that Stewart?s posts will be interesting and valuable to all our readers, whatever their politics.
