The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in cooperation with Graco Children's Products Inc., of Atlanta, GA., have announced a voluntary recall of about 1.5 million children's strollers due to reports of fingertip lacerations and amputations.
The stroller's hinge mechanism poses a fingertip amputation and laceration hazard to the child when the parent or caregiver is unfolding/opening the stroller. Graco has received seven reports of children placing their finger in the stroller's hinge mechanism, resulting in five reports of fingertip amputations and two fingertip lacerations.
This recall involves Graco Passage™, Alano™ and Spree™ Strollers and Travel Systems with the following model numbers and with a plastic, jointed hinge mechanism that has indented canopy positioning notches. This is the second major recall of strollers due to fingertip laceration and amputation hazards. In November 2009, Maclaren USA, Inc. recalled about one million for the same hazard after the firm received 15 reports of children placing their finger in the stroller's hinge mechanism, resulting in 12 reports of fingertip amputations in the United States.
