Legal Commentary

The scheduling of AALS was this year was a stroke of near-genius.  The organizers managed to have the conference overlap with Elvis' 75th Birthday -- which falls on a Friday night.  Perhaps the organizers can be faulted for not having the event at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis, or maybe even a venue in Nashville (though Nashville rarely does Elvis well, odd I know, but true), but that is at most a minor flaw. New Orleans will surely appropriately celebrate such an important date on the calendar better than almost any city.

So I've done some research on musical options for that Friday.  It's hard to tell exactly what bands will be heavily Elvis-influenced that evening, but here's my pick.  Gal Holiday and the Honky Tonk Revue at Le Bon Temps Roule, 4801 Magazine.  They've got to be playing a lot of the King that night.  Like all good N'awlins music venues, the band doesn't crank up until 11:00 pm.  A cab is one way to get there, but also the street car will take you to St. Charles and Bordeaux -- and walk toward the river (left side of street car heading away from downtown) until you hit Magazine.
